Craig Breen - Scott Martin

After making his competitive debut in 2008 in Ireland and then racing in the United Kingdom, Craig Breen’s career moved beyond the British Isles when he won the WRC Academy in 2011. His success in the category earned him a drive in a Ford Fiesta S2000 for 2012, but then disaster struck when Craig’s co-driver and friend Gareth Roberts was killed in a freak accident at the Rally Targa Florio (IRC).

Encouraged by the friends and family of “Jaffa” to keep racing, Craig pursued his season with Paul Nagle as co-driver, and went on to be crowned S-WRC champion at the end of the year, with four wins. He then continued his rise through the ranks by competing in European Rally Championship (ERC), as part of the Peugeot Rally Academy. He finished third in the championship two years running, firstly in the 207 S2000 in 2013 and then in its replacement, the 208 T16, in 2014. It was in 2014 that he experienced driving a WRC in the world championship for the first time, finishing a promising ninth overall in Sweden.

This was also the point at which he was joined by the more experienced co-driver Scott Martin, after the Englishman had spent four full seasons in the WRC alongside Matthew Wilson and a year with Khalid Al Qassimi. 2015 saw Craig finish as runner-up in the ERC, whilst also showcasing his obvious talent in the WRC-2. These performances led to him joining the Abu Dhabi Total WRT for six rallies in 2016, where he took another step up and grabbed a podium place at Rally Finland (3rd).

Competing on behalf of the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT in 2017, he managed to combine reliability and consistency to claim an impressive collection of six fifth-place finishes. For 2018, he now intends to build on the experience acquired with the Citroën C3 WRC to finish even higher up the standings at rallies in his ten-round programme.
