Vladimir Chagin and the teams Kamaz
The Russian team, which has scored 13 victories in the event, was beaten last year. It has entered four trucks as it is determined to add more wins to its tally.
The Kamaz Master Team managed by Vladimir Chagin, a former 7-time winner nicknamed the “Tsar of the Dakar,” is a living legend in the world of cross-country rallies in the highly spectacular truck category. The Russian outfit has entered four Kamaz 4326s in partnership with Total Russia.
The fiery Ayrat Mardeev, victorious in 2015, second in 2016 and winner of the recent Silk Way Rally, embodies the family spirit of the Russian team which he joined following in the footsteps of his Ilgizar father. The experienced Eduard Nikolaev whose three top-3 finishes include a win in 2013 is another victory contender.
But at Kamaz it’s the team that matters not the drivers. Thus, Dimitry
Sotnikov, three outings in the Dakar, and Anton Shibalov, who won the last Africa Eco Race, are serious outsiders depending on how the race unfolds.
