Total joins forces with cool racing in ELMS

Heavily involved in Endurance racing, a discipline unequivocally considered to be the ultimate proving ground for developing the high-performance fuels of tomorrow, Total has added another string to its bow by signing a partnership between the TOTAL brand and COOL Racing for the 2020 European Le Mans Series and the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans. The collaboration comes in addition to the relationship already established between ELF and Panis Racing in the same championship.

With Total the official fuel supplier for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the European Le Mans Series, not only will COOL Racing’s Oreca 07 LMP2 prototype use the brand’s unleaded fuel, which includes 20% ethanol from renewable sources, the Swiss outfit will also sport the iconic Total colors. Total firmly intends to help the team compete in the front of the field in its second full season in the championship.

It will be able to count on the support of the team, headed by Nicolas Lapierre (Platinum), who came third in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014 and is four-time winner in the LMP2 category (2015, 2016, 20108 and 2019), whose talent and experience are beyond question. The partnership gives Total the opportunity to once again work with Nicolas Lapierre, whose role in the team goes over and above pure driving. The collaboration with Lapierre goes back several years already and has always proved both fruitful and positive.

The Frenchman will head a team of drivers that also includes Antonin Borga (Silver) and Alexandre Coigny (Bronze) from Switzerland. Following official testing on July 13 and 14, they will embark on a series of five four-hour races on some of Europe’s most legendary tracks (including Le Castellet, Spa-Francorchamps and Monza), as well as the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race on September 19-20, 2020.
