DS TECHEETAH light up the final race

Another spectacular comeback! The DS E-TENSE FE20s put on a spectacular display in the final race of the season on the third, more technical, configuration of the Berlin – Tempelhof track. After only managing eighteenth place and a DNF respectively in the penultimate race of the season held the day before, following a series of unfortunate events, Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix Da Costa made amends in their final competitive outing of the year. Starting from the back of the grid, like all the other group 1 members (the top six in the standings), given that the circuit tended to improve for those starting later down the order in qualifying, both DS TECHEETAH drivers then delivered an impressive race performance. They showed undeniable speed and clever energy management. Especially motivated at the prospect of trying to finish as runner-up in the championship, Vergne managed to fight back from twenty-first on the starting grid to finish in seventh position with some particularly smart overtaking moves! Da Costa wasn't to be left out either, the new champion making up no fewer than ten places in the race to finish tenth overall. “I'm very pleased with how the race went today,” commented Vergne, the champion in seasons four and five. “It’s nice to finish in the top-three of the championship, even though I only missed out on second place by a single point. I would like to congratulate Antonio on winning the title and thank everyone at my team. They work so hard and together I feel like we can move mountains.” “Today was a very special day as we received the championship trophies,” added his team-mate and newly-crowned champion. “I'm not the kind of person to rest on my laurels, however, and I can't wait to start the new season because I want to experience this feeling again. I’m sure that it will be a very close fight at the front again, but we’re going to give it everything.” The message sent to their rivals is therefore clear…

Championship update

With four race wins (Da Costa in Marrakesh, Berlin 1 and Berlin 2 and Vergne in Berlin 4) and a total of nine podiums (Da Costa 2nd in Santiago, Mexico and Berlin 4, Vergne 3rd in Marrakesh and Berlin 3), added to five pole positions and three fastest race laps in eleven rounds, DS TECHEETAH’s DS E-TENSE Fe20s literally stamped their authority on this sixth running of the FIA Formula E championship. No surprise then that Antonio Felix Da Costa and the team secured the drivers’ and teams’ titles with two races of the season remaining. The final unknown from this final double-header was who would take the last two places on the championship’s final podium. Despite a heroic comeback in race 2, Jean-Eric Vergne had to settle for third place by just a single point.

Did you know?

Introduced at the start of the season as one of the prototype products provided to DS TECHEETAH, Total’s wheel bearing lubricant is especially viscous. This means that a reduced quantity of product can be used, whilst still providing optimum lubrication. The reduced weight – several hundred grams in total – may seem small, but is very substantial at this level of racing, where gains are measured in hundredths of a second, enabling for example further improvements to the positioning of ballast on the car.
