Timmy Hansen gets back to winning ways!

 

World Rallycross Championship – Barcelona 1 & 2

After the series of races held since mid-August, there had been a pause in the WRX calendar since the last meeting in Riga (Latvia). Team Hansen made perfect use of the month-long break to up its level again when the action resumed in Barcelona this weekend. The test sessions held with the Peugeot 208 WRX proved to be particularly productive, enabling Timmy Hansen to qualify on the front row for the opening final of the Barcelona meeting. Making the most of his new tyres, the reigning world champion then managed the feat of beating the previously unstoppable championship leader to take his maiden win of the year. The performance was all the more satisfying as his younger brother Kevin joined him on the podium, after finishing in third place. The team enjoyed another strong result in Sunday’s final as Timmy finished second in race 2, confirming the undeniable progress made on performance during this short break. “It’s been a fantastic weekend for us,” commented a delighted Timmy at the finish. “The entire team put in a lot of work behind the scenes in testing and it’s really paid off here. The win yesterday will definitely be the highlight, as it felt like I’d beaten the unbeatable one. We now have to try and build on these results.” Meanwhile, Andreas Bakkerud, leader of GCK RX Cartel team, qualified for both finals in his Renault Mégane RSRX. He was unable to do better than fifth place, however, notably after a clash at the start of the race 2 final.

Championship update

The Hansen family enjoyed an excellent weekend in Catalonia as regards the championship: Timmy moved up to third in the drivers’ standings, whilst Kevin grabbed fifth position and Team Hansen closed to within just sixteen points of its main rival in the teams’ title race, after making up some twenty-seven points during the weekend. Andreas Bakkerud, the lead driver of the GCK RX Cartel team, remains seventh in the championship standings.

Although customer racing products such as the Total Quartz and Elf lubricants used by Team Hansen and GCK RX Cartel are designed for a broad target, they nonetheless comply with a development protocol that is just as meticulous as customised fluids. Specifications are defined beforehand, setting out very high quality standards, the chemical formulation to be used and detailing an intense approval phase. This involves both bench and on-track testing, ensuring that the targets set have been met.
